Quick sketch out of today’s 5.5 x 8.5 lunchtime sketchbook…
by David Reddick on May 19th, 2009Here’s a quick sketch out of the ol’ 5.5 x 8.5 Strathmore Premium Recycled sketchbook I did today at lunch, drawn with a Ticonderoga #2 soft pencil (the best!). I find I like the size of this sketchbook… portable, not TOO small. A bit more restrictive in size obviously, but I sort of like that. It harkens to me to do quick doodles and more detailed small sketches. Ideal for carrying around with you, even to work. Okay, my process geek side is in full view.
This was from a dinky small (and unusually NON-smiling) image pic of the beautiful Jennifer Love Hewitt I saw on the corner of a TV Guide page on my desk, so I had to sketch it! Sometimes you have to find ANYTHING to sketch. Hey, it’s not perfect, but then, it’s not meant to be! It’s really only a thumbnail size, about 2 inches wide. Art tip for the day: If you don’t want your pencil sketches to smear, spray a little hairspray on the sketch (not too close, though, and don;t saturate it, it doesn’;t take much). It acts as the perfect fixative!
Completed strip will be up Tuesday, Dec. 9th! In the meantime, check out some pix from the charity event this past weekend below in the blog!
Here’s a fun lil’ sketchy preview of tomorrow’s strip… after all that orc and minotaur business, it’s TAVERN time for the boys!
Another earlier rough sketch of Princess Gina I did awhile back… I’ve posted this before, but thought I’d make a trilogy out of these watercolory Ginas!!
