From the sketchbook: If I drew U.S. Acres today…
by David Reddick on November 18th, 2010At the Garfield studio (my day job), we’ve recently re-launched U.S. Acres as a webcomic, and I’ve been playing around with sketching the characters in my own style, if I were to draw new strips myself these days… what’s funny is that I think my own style is slightly reminiscent of earlier Garfield strips (early 80′s), which were always an influence on me (combined with old Jay Ward and Hanna Barbera cartoons)… Here’s Orson the pig and Booker the chick… I’ll post more as I do ‘em soon, if you wanna see ‘em!
New Garfield project that I worked on is LIVE!
by David Reddick on October 29th, 2009A new educational Garfield project for kids I’ve worked on over the past months with the E-team here at Paws is now live – and awesome!! It’s the first educational video in a series that we’re working on, and in this one, I storyboarded the entire video, provided scratch tracks (voiceovers) for the storyboarded version, and also did quite a bit of character design and final artwork that’s seen in the video. Anyhoo – a slice of my work at my dayjob – enjoy! P.S. There are also some FANTASTIC folks here at Paws that poured lots of time into it, not just me – they are all to be congratulated, particularly our awesome animator, who animated it all himself!

Just go to Garfield.com and look at the main video screeen at top, and click #3 – and be sure to click it again and again, as there are several different takes! I had the great pleasure of meeting Larry Elmore, an incredibly friendly cat and one of my all-time favorite fantasy artists (or artists PERIOD, for that matter), at Dragon*Con last month. We got the chance to sit and chat for a good while, and even doodle. I’ll post some more pictures, but here’s my favorite one (the second one)… Larry, who just so happens to be a Garfield fan, laughing his arse off as I sketch him up a lil’ gift. More pictures to come from this meeting, but in the meantime, hmm… see any correlation between Larry ELMORE and the current strip? Hmmmm? A tip o’ the ol’ fantasy hat.
