Close-up of panel 2 and a few thoughts on Warrix

by David Reddick on April 9th, 2013

Don really kicked ass on the coloring of this image. It deserved a closer look… not to mention a closer look at Warrix.

I’ve heard a few folks say in the past that they thought Warrix would maybe be scarier looking… but to me, he is, because he’s not a completely-freakish monster (visually), rather, he’s a seriously transformed (and mostly beefed up, with some twists) version of Vorik, his former self, and for some reason, I like that. I like that he’s not truly 100% hideous to look at, but what IS hideous is what he is on the inside. I like that I can still see a version of his former Vorik self in his face and mannerisms and arrogance, as it helps me stay grounded in the fact that he’s still a person in there, albeit the kind of person you better stay as far away from as possible, because he only resembles a person on the outside. Inside, he truly is mangled and twisted and EVIL and without any feeling for any other creature, other than his own twisted desires. But then… that’s exactly who he was as Vorik. What do you think?

Surprises in the act of writing Legend of Bill

by David Reddick on March 26th, 2013
      Posted In: blog

This is always the fascinating thing about creating. I’ve had the scripts and storyline for what’s coming up in Legend of Bill plotted out for some time now. And then, suddenly, tonight, as I was working on Thursday’s strip, and drawing Ganyon, I got an idea, as I considered this side nugget of an idea that occurred to me long ago, but I had forgotten. And then it clicked. And BAM. Plot out the window. New plot unfolded through the act of writing. The characters and the world became real to me as it so often does, and I sat back and essentially became nothing more than a scribe to the reality that started to unfold in front of me. Gawd, I love it when that happens. The best writing is when you are no longer the writer, but rather an observer as the characters and events themselves take on life and dictate for themselves what will happen.
