OK, see, even in giving me some answers you created more questions. Like how are Vorik and Warrix BOTH here if they are the same person? Come on! I just had a heart attack. I can’t take this kind of stress!
““Set out now and cross the Arnon Gorge. See, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his country. Begin to take possession of it and engage him in battle.”"—Deuteronomy 2:24
Look up Arnon in a Bible search. Some interesting coincidences, such as:
“Like fluttering birds pushed from the nest, so are the women of Moab at the fords of the Arnon.”—Isaiah 16:2
I was also thinking that Arnon’s name was Hebrew. You should go to Israel and see some of these places – it is the most worthwhile tourist destination in the world, by FAR.
re: subplots, Dave this page is wonderful and I like where you’re going with this. It’s true that the gang has been separated for so much of the story I forgot they were on a quest (for Gina, maybe?) and that you ramble and digress like my Jewish grandfather (z”l) for possibly too long altogether, from an editor’s point of view, but I am enjoying it!
It would be interesting to organize a trip with some of the Messianic Jews in the family, but I literally don’t have the funds to do so. I’ve four books out there, but in this economy, few have the spare cash to buy books.
You’re from Portland, right? I worked up there in the mid 1990s for the Corps of Engineers (before they got rid of 8,000 of us engineers from 1993-1997). I’m typing this from about 170 miles away in Bend.
Dave: would you delete the “website” on my first comment on this page? I messed it up. It won’t take the reader to a page. Thanks.
i’m not from oregon, though i have family there and expect to visit portland in 2 weeks. i’ve been living in israel for 10 years, and have recently moved back to the states, with a home base in arizona. i still own my jerusalem apartment and travel frequently for work. haven’t been to bend YET but i am planning to visit in the next year – i want to see ashland too, and visit friends in eugene.
re: sales of your book, not to dismiss your comment about the economy, but i believe books are still selling quite well (in particular if they’re available in kindle format) when there’s a) a demand and b )good, targeted marketing. you could market your books yourself online, if you know the forums and people who’d most likely constitute your readership… it’s rare for non-fiction to sell very well – and it’s better if it’s mentioned by a television show that focuses on the same subject. there’s also more competition than ever. while working as an editor for a college textbook publisher, i discovered to what lengths publishers have to go to get the BEST (anatomy & physiology for example) books ordered by professors, even when professors KNOW it’s the best book. though i’m sure you’re already aware of this.
thats how flashback is done. if its four colored, then we are still in present, but when it sepatone it is flashback and all eeire and gloomy. more melodrama and theatrics.
Thanks, maybe some day in some special “director’s cut” of a comic book, we can publish the full color versions of the sepia strips. You’d probably never guess the color of King Arnon’s robes.
But if you did go back and kill him before he rose to power, what would the world be like that you returned to? Technological advances that came about during the war may not have been discovered until later, if at all. People may not have moved around, people that were lost in the war wouldn’t have died and survivors gone on to marry those intended, but not the ones the did originally. The world would be quite different, your mom and dad may not have even met, or for that fact, even been born.
Actually, the simplest paradox is if you go back in time purely for the purpose of killing Hitler, and succeed then when you get back to your home time, there would have never been a Hitler or a reason for you to build a time machine in the first place unless the machine gives you a limited immunity from the chain of causality.
Get Mao, too. 30 million Chinese each in the Chinese Civil War, Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. Plus 400 million aborted or infanticided after birth for the “one child only” policy.
Although. Mild disappointment. I was kinda hoping 300-500 years or so. Just because.
And, if Shiarra can sense Vasheeva at the moment, I wonder who else? To be thrown back into this time frame, it wouldn’t surprise me if the magics involved might draw them to the same/similar moments when Gypsy peered back into the past.
Might allow Shiarra to to sense Bill & Frank & Gypsy … and perhaps even Giles. And for poor Giles, this really is déjà vu all over again! I wonder if he was at the wedding, too?
And, will we finally get confirmation that a certain Knower of Things is also alive & well in this time? It seems almost a certainty.
Quite a change in this raven-haired woman over time: in her attitude, her ears, her, uh, you know, and her dress. Just WHAT kind of a number did Warrix-to-Be DO on her?!
Warrix and Vorik and bears, Oh My!
OK, see, even in giving me some answers you created more questions. Like how are Vorik and Warrix BOTH here if they are the same person? Come on! I just had a heart attack. I can’t take this kind of stress!
Named after the Arnon River?

Great!

I LOVE the muted colors to represent the past. Great work Don!
And David, dun dun dun! You always have a way to keep us on the edge of our seats.

YAHOO the melodrama and theatrics ensue.
gee if she could go back a 100 yrs why not go back 200 years and kill warrix when he wasnt all powerful. think of the lives she would save.
similarly, if i had a time machine, i could go back in time and adolph hitler = little Schicklgruber himself.

I can never hear the Chairman mentioned without starting to sing, “Surfing Bird” in my mind…..
Finally! After years of speculation: time frame!
Although. Mild disappointment. I was kinda hoping 300-500 years or so. Just because.
