“Central, this is Icehammer-1, we’re in pursuit of the suspect, northbound on Dark Avenue, please send reinforcements. Suspect is armed and has taken a hostage.”
“10-4, Icehammer, Magicpants-1 and Zerk-1 are inbound.”
Very GOOD! I was just thinking coming in that our heroes might want to pick up some backup. I still say Saran and Mrs. Minotaur couldn’t hurt… wait, the whole idea is that they COULD hurt…
That’s one reason why I added the glowy bits. Even though Shiarra is casting the same spell, its appearance should be unique to her. It’s like art, two people can draw the same picture, representing the same thing, but due to the individual styles and experiences, the two pictures are different.
I also noticed that and good on SpaceCop for pointing it out. Some part of my mind was working on another level though – sure, Thor and Iron Man use different effects in the same movie (for example) but part of me is reacting to the ever-increasing level of technology being applied to special effects across the board.
I like the hand-drawn and hand-painted effects that David and you use. I wouldn’t want them to be submerged by more and more use of Photoshop.
Thanks Johanan. I’ve been going towards more detailed coloring techniques, trying to emulate some of the earlier Hanna-Barbera cartoons. They always had those wonderfully painted bacgrounds that the characters worked in front of. You don’t see stuff like that anymore (too expensive and the move to digital production).
I also try to keep it from looking “Photoshopped”, all of the shading and highlighting effects are done by hand, not by using gradients or filters. When I do use filters, they’re used sparingly, and often combined with other effects.
In the equally immortal (if paraphrased) words of Bugs Bunny: “Don’t worry, I’ll be all right as long as I can keep ‘im in front of me – and I AIN’T gonna turn my BACK on ‘im.”
Ah yes, I remember that comment by Sylvester! The other one is new to me. I was thinking of the famous “Nuts!”, but also of this one:
For the first time in the history of this campaign, we are now in the position to attack the enemy in any direction. – Lt. Col. Creighton Adams, when he was surrounded during World War II
Now if G-nome 12 can just grab one of the Israeli’s softball nukes, they can take care of Warrix. They’d have to run fast, though… 1100m poof, 1500m safe zone.
I was thinking of the Mother of All Bombs (MOAB – US) or better still, the Father of All Bombs (FOAB – Russia). Just stumbled across those on Wikipedia the other day – fascinating reading, those articles are.
How about a rehash of the 50mt “Tsar Bomba?” That would get Warrix’ attention. While one gets diminishing returns as nukes get bigger, the hole was certainly dug much deeper with a 50mt blast.

I mean SARAH (armed with SARAN WRAP to suffocate Warrix and his magic? Couldn’t hurt…). DAVID, WE NEED AN EDIT BUTTON ON THIS THING!
if i had a nickle everytime someone wished for a EDIT or DELETE BUTTON here in Billverse, i would be a millionaire
You and me BOTH, T. Charlie.
Cool twirly effect, DON. Don’t overuse it or we’ll get jaded. Remember the Law of Diminishing Returns as it applies to movie special effects.

I noticed that. Nuances like that give more depth to comics/movies than people often realize.
Well played sirs, well played.

Well, if this isn’t an obvious ambush, I don’t know what is.
In the immortal words of General Ackbar, “It’s a trap!!”
Or, as Sailor Uranus or Neptune might say “It seems to be an invitation….it would be rude to refuse it….”
ah yes, but i know its trap, and warrix knows i know its a trap, and i know that warrix knows that i know it a trap … uh, now i’m getting confused
Or as “Lincoln” said in The Savage Curtain, “I propose we give them what they want. However, not the way THEY want it.”
In the equally immortal (if paraphrased) words of Bugs Bunny: “Don’t worry, I’ll be all right as long as I can keep ‘im in front of me – and I AIN’T gonna turn my BACK on ‘im.”
The chase is on!
Dunno, I envision appearing more into something like:
- They have us surrounded!
- Great. We can shoot in any direction. We have them surrounded from the inside!
positive mental attitude
Love that – reminiscent of several famous military remarks…
Like Napoleon III saying “we were not cowards at Sedan, were we?”
Or better yet, Sylvester the Cat saying “I’ve got him right where he wants me, now, son.”

how about some explosive chase music

Read a little about that, too. Nah, save the thermonukes for Sauron of Mordor.
1:0 for Warrix… for now
