“The Trek Life”, my comic strip from STARTREK.COM (featuring a tribute to Jimmy Doohan) posted on George Takei Facebook page
on May 25th, 2012An incredibly nice post yesterday by George Takei (who I’m proud to say I’ve met and had the chance to hang out with at a few cons). This was a comic from my “The Trek Life” (Come join the Facebook Fan Page HERE!) comic strip I did for the official STARTREK.COM website for Paramount/CBS from 2005-2008. Jimmy Doohan had passed away in July 2005 and this was a tribute from me/my characters to him upon the announcement a few years thereafter that his ashes would be launched into space, a rightful and fitting place for this most excellent human. A large signed print from the entire CBS/STARTREK.COM staff was given to his wonderful wife a few years back. Mr. Doohan’s ashes were finally launched into space a few days ago, and Mr. Takei posted my cartoon to commemorate it, for which I am deeply honored. A signed (or not) print of this can be found HERE in my official Trek gallery at LIGHTSPEED FINE ART. When you look to the stars, dear friends, remember to look for Mr. Doohan… somewhere… third star to the right… and straight on ’til morning.

I met Jimmy years ago while working for a convention. He was a wonderful person who would loved his fans as much as we loved him. Will have a Dewar’s and mineral water in his honor tonight.
I met him at a photo signing at Macy’s in San Francisco at the 20th anniversary of STAR TREK. Too bad the meeting was so short – he was taller than I expected, but Hollywood actors often are. (And I thought he’d been sent skyward long before now.)
Godspeed, Mr. Scott
