Fan Art Friday: The Dark Queen by Bill Walko of “The Hero Business”!

Bill Walko is one of my favorite cartoonists. I came across his work at my Sketchbook Facebook page (come join us!: www.facebook.com/sketchbookart), and then discovered his webcomic “The Hero Business“, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Bill sent me this GORGEOUS Dark Queen sketch recently and it MUST be seen! Thanks, Bill! Now, be sure to check out Bill’s comic HERE!

Seeing that makes me think of Jeannie’s evil twin from “I Dream of Jeannie”.
Nicely done! Oh yeah, Dave, I’m a Walko fan too!
I’m reminded more of Nefretiti (or however the credits spelled her name) from Cecil B. DeMille’s THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. Go figure.
WoW!
We haven’t seen Vasheeva for quite a while now … and this is about as tasty a rendering of our Dark Beauty as we’ve ever seen! I agree with Johanan: there is a very distinctive, Egyptian goddess look to her in this portrait. Very lovely, Bill. Thank you!
I pretty sure the little detail that makes her look Egyptian is the way her eyeliner extends and slopes upward past the edge of her eye, exactly the same way people in Egyptian Hieroglyphics are drawn.
Before they adopted Christianity and before they got mostly wiped out by the Arabs, the Copts/Egyptians had god or goddess for pretty much everything. We usually only get the sanitized ones like Anubis or Isis, but with all the talk about the Eqyptian looks of the Dark Queen and remembering her nasty designs, I’m thinking one of the scorpion goddesses…
She uses kohl, the lead or stibnite eyeliner, eh?
Maybe you could get Marta Zawadzka to play the Dark Queen in the screen adaptation. (Gak, what a thought. It’d be like “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”) Or Lucie Blazkova to play Princess Gina.
