…with some more revelations along the way. I’m most proud of the art. And Don’s amazing colors absolutely made the package. I hope you enjoy the ride. Next episode:THURSDAY!
Love the dragons, love the story tangent, how it starts, etc. but please do something about those eyes, boobs, tiara, right arm and neck of the bride. Eyes with upside-down lids (I understand she’s probably enamored and really can’t think straight)… , boobs don’t grow out from under the armpit, tiara is to be place at the top of the head near the front, not behind most of the hair, right arm looks disappeared (put it around his neck), and neck seems to grow out of the right arm.
…Well nothing I say anymore will somehow get any readers to like me anymore. So back to friends with my pet rock.
BTW that’s not a Tiara that is a Veil, two totally different things and yes, depending on the design, it can go in the hair.
Her eyeslids are not upside down, she is enamoured, thus giving her a dreamy eyed look.
I have no idea where you are looking because her breasts are exactly where they should be, not out of her armpits but on her chest. If she is full breasted, they they have a mind all thier own. How do i know? Because I have them!
Arm is at her side and slightly behind, closer to his waist, not disappeared. Again, if he scooped her up quickly, she would have no time to adjust her arm to make herself visually pleaseing to you.
Neck is not growing out of her arm, she is leaning her head towards his shoulder.
Have you ever even seen a real woman?
*hoses the tavern down with Troll-B-Gon…Industrial Strength*
Gotta agree that the eyes are kinda weird (especially given the lids and eyebrows) but otherwise I give Her Pixieness full marks and moral support. (I thought dreamy eyes had the upper lids half-closed, but maybe that’s just me.)
I am still shaking my head in awe at the wonderfulness of this opening. Making this guy a Sympathetic Villain at the, er, Kohr would be a hard job for anyone to do plausibly but you took the path guaranteed to make this fuzzy ol’ heart have the most sympathy possible for him.
Yeah, Uhl, some of us (uh, me) are kinda slow on the uptake about such things. But it was only raised to our level of consciousness because someone decided to play the art critic and complain about it.
Thank you, jonwaynew, for your honesty and close analysis. Comments, both positive and negative are always welcome here. However, I must defer to LoB’s head Barwench, Pixie, as I’d reiterate what she said below, as she hit every point I’d make, as I believe the drawing to be sound. (Although sometimes I *am* a little off, and I’ll admit it when I know it, ) Pixie, your observation is most accute and welcome as well. That is indeed a headband of a veil, with flowery acoutrements. And while I could have drawn her right arm around young Kohr’s neck, I chose instead exactly when you said, a quick-pick-up of sorts, whereas her hand would be down towards his waist, yet pushing the shoulder somewhat upwards. Damn, good or bad, I love it when you good folks analyze! It makes it feel special, and tells me that it’s important to you, as it is to me.
Other than my aforementioned perplexity about the lady’s eyes, the pose strikes me as perfectly natural, right down to where Kohr most naturally has his left hand (somehow it just seems to wander there given the chance, partially because the easiest bend of the arm seems to make it go there)…
My only question now is why both didn’t die right there. That must’ve been one sadistic dragon, whoever he turns out to be.
Yeah, Tolkien had a thing to say about both of those attributes in THE HOBBIT, come to think of it. In fact I was probably twirling a memory of that around in my mental Nothing Box when I wrote the above.
well you see charlie he was mad about not getting his wife in bed.. but thats tale for another time
this tale is why frank and him are mad each other i think frank is hiding his true appearance,, betting frank was turned in to a small dragon by a sorcerer
that cant be look at the size of those claw marks on his head and now look at franks his claws there bigger then franks claws…
he would have to be medium size dragon to even get his claws on the whole top of his head and frontal face if you look carefully you can see that spacing on the claws would indicate that frank was bigger at the time he fought kohr, but i should be arguing with you on this part..
just seems that frank would have to be a bigger dragon to do that damage unless its not really as bad as we are seeing as it made out to be
After giving it a bit of thought, I think I have an explanation for how it happened. First, Frank could have retractable claws which would stick out further, easily widening the distance between the scratch marks.
And as to how he was able to get to Kohr’s face? I imagine that while Frank is still young for a dragon, and a bit small, he probably fights like a whirling dervish. (Think Yoda).
Don
hmm now that would make sense if they are retractable spread out little more after being out and and the way you stated about the dervish yoda oh that would definitely explain the claws marks on his head and also make funny to have blue dragon on you head and face.
Ooh, I was so right–awesome dragon, Dave! Any chance the b/w detail can be made available in color? And looking forward to the Kohr story from when he was a good guy.
Oh Wisest of Wizards Don. I think you misunderstood my use of brilliant. I meant Inspired. I should have used that word. Oh I want to see it in non flash backy colors! (those are all words I swear!)
No, it’s not you, everyone around here who doesn’t look like Vasheeva looks like Gina and this one looks rather like Gina. Must be a lot of inbreeding in Terragard. Slight exaggeration there, David and Don, but you do seem to work from unconscious templates. Mental archetypes, perhaps.
I thought she looked familiar, but that’s just David’s style. I’ve been spending a lot of time looking thru the previous strips recently, and she’s not in there.
I’m wondering how Frank ties into all this…. is he the son of the two dragons pictured here?! Only time will tell…. (or spoilers will, whichever come first…..)
Then it will be interesting indeed to see how Frank even comes into the story. While Kohr is wreaking vengeance on the species that slew his bride, perhaps? We could get some really interesting narrative complications here! (Don’t let us down on that point, David!)
Sure they do…at the same time everyone else does, at the END of the narrative… patience, Grasshopper, if this thing ever ends SOMEONE has to end it happily…
I agree with you Johanan, they’ve yet to figure out who the bad guy(s) is/are, where exactly they are, what it is they’re up to, and how to stop them, let alone the final confrontation and battle. There’s still plenty of time for new characters to be introduced, plot complications, villians, daring rescues, skull duggery and even corruption and don’t forget the possibility of the noble sacrifice.
Will any or all of the above come to be in this ever widening tale? Stay tuned!!
I remember Rodan (I named a local mockingbird after him – whatever he was imitating, maybe a rusty hinge, he did it promptly at 6 AM and loudly and nearby), but I’ve only seen him when he was fighting against Godzilla and then with Godzilla and Mothra against What’s-His-Name the Three-Headed Monster.
Newlywed couple, eh? Bummer.
Gotta admit, that’s a scary-looking dragon.
Maybe I shouldn’t have picked an email name that effectively means “mouth of the dragon…”
Toss a white phosphorus grenade down its craw? (With apologies to Brian Daley…)
A white phosphorous grenade? That would be like candy to a real dragon (like these guys), or like trying to use gasoline to put out a fire.
Does anyone here remember the coal-eating dragon that Alley Oop befriended in one of his adventures?
Remember the picture with Bill and Vasheeva, where they are King & Queen and way older? And the bachground where i told you that is not a wall but looks more like some dragonscales of a huge dragon? And that I believe it is an old version of Frank?
Yeah – Frank’s got his little secrets
I remember that picture too, but what you might have forgotten is that it’s a possible future. Sylvia (the fairie) revealed that as she was “discussing” it with Giles (aka Agent 13).
And Bill immediately drops to the floor sitting indian style with his chin propped up in his hands staring at Kohr with giant sparkly eyes in rapt attention.
At the end he will request another story.
And where’s the plus-sized wench with my plus-sized strawberry milkshake??? Don’t skimp on those sprinkle neither! Lest I make you teach me a lesson in manners…..
Not close enough of a resemblance; she looks more like Gina (freckles included). And we can rule out both Gina and Gypsy, because they’re still alive and this lass isn’t… unless David has a yet-unguessed trick up his sleeve…
These two, while the bride dies, give birth to our fair Gypsy girl! A bit ‘o feisty-ness mixed with a bit o’ magic. Maybe even some influence from the dragon, the larger of which I’m gonna guess get’s killed while Frank takes out some vengeance.
My only gripe with your comic Dave is that you desire to have a life. And as such, we only get these updates twice a week.
LOVING. THESE. COMMENTS.
Speculations abound and I LOVE it!! Oh, my dear Billbarians, much will be revealed… I can’t wait to see it come to fruition… yessss, my darlings… *wrings hands in villainous joy*… IS Kohr a good guy deep down?
I doubt it. >:-)
But he once was.. Strange how life, circumstances, pain, etc. can suddenly change an otherwise decent person into… something else. I think I relate to fallible characters in some way… it seems to be a theme that recurs in my own writing, that I enjoy exploring. I love how even such things can be explored in the delicious limitations of 3 simple panels. But don’t we all relate anfallibled “feel” such characters? Didn’t we all, at some point in our lives, have it all figured out, were the cards to be played a certain way? And didn’t we all discover that the deck of cards is really just a gamble and sometimes the hand doesn’t play the way you planned it to be played.
Oh c’mon, admit it, you’re making this up as you go along every step of the way, pretty much like the creators of Dragonball Z did. And you’re loving it, also every step of the way.
This strip has some definite anime qualities to it that i like….the hints that what seems to be evil may not be, and that which seems to be good has their own little secrets. In some respects, it is like Macross, a classic series in which two empires are at war….neither side is ‘evil’ as we might understand it…both sides are noble in fighting for their ends, but there is some great philosophical gulf that will not simply allow them to settle things peacefully and live side-by-side in harmony. Somehow, i get this is what i am seeing here with Kohr….not truly evil, but a good man driven by his inner torments to do things he might not have otehrwise done. (And believe it or not, i see much the same from the Evil Queen…as besmitten she is with Bill, can she be truly that evil? Or did she turn to evil to attempt to free herself from her burdens?)
Great stuff, guys! Creepy characters, plot twists and turns, mysterious goings on, loveable and huggable characters (including our favorite doofus, Bill, and our favorite straight-man, er, dragon, Frank), wonderful drawing and brilliant (inspired) coloring, laugh-out-loud humor and dark mystery, and more cliffhangers than a Saturday serial.
I think Pixie was kind aggressive towards that guy.
0k maybe he was kinda rude. But I don’t think he was trolling and her comments were somewhat unnecessarily harsh…
Wheres the love?
Mr J out
I’m loving the dragon (and echoing the sentiment about wanting to see an unmuted version), but why does he/she only have those two little stray spikes on the right side of his face?
I’m also betting that the dragons are also an item, because the parallelism would be awesome, and obviously neither of those are Frank.
Sorry Tim, the house elves that do a lot of the behind the scenes stuff at the LoB studios started their Thanksgiving celebrations a bit early. I tried, but once they start partying, it’s very hard to get them back to work, so we’ll have to wait until Monday.
Oh sure, blame it on the drunken elves. That’s profiling ya know!
We better get another episode Monday or there will be no amount of hand clapping to bring them back from where I will send them. Oh wait, that’s faeries. Damn!
Them’s some sneaky dragons to get that close without being noticed. Someone missed their Spot Check.
(by the way, whoo hoo I’m first here)
Kohr and bride are thinking “wedding night.” Most married couples will tell you “wedding night” pretty much crowds out everything else in the brain.
Love the dragons, love the story tangent, how it starts, etc. but please do something about those eyes, boobs, tiara, right arm and neck of the bride. They “upside down” eyelids have ALWAYS been that way, since the beginning of the comic, and it’s only mentioned NOW?
For the rest, have to go with David (who makes the comic) and Pixie, who said it much better than I could.
Yeah, Uhl, some of us (uh, me) are kinda slow on the uptake about such things.

Well dragons do have a “thing”about maidens, not to mention that the bad ones have a cruel streak a mile wide.

You rock Pixie! Thanks for the round and the backup.
Ooh Storytime! Tell us a story, Kohr…
what … didnt eberybody know kohr was a good guy.
i am telling you, the bad guy in the inn, is that mysterious figure in the vanialla capote
well you see charlie he was mad about not getting his wife in bed.. but thats tale for another time
this tale is why frank and him are mad each other i think frank is hiding his true appearance,, betting frank was turned in to a small dragon by a sorcerer
and the dragon are nice adding to the story
DarkMyse,
Nope, that’s Frank’s actual size. As far as dragons go, he’s a young one.
@don
that cant be look at the size of those claw marks on his head and now look at franks his claws there bigger then franks claws…

*puts on her fuzzy bunny slippers and her rhumba panties* Yay! Story time!
*grabs her Frank plushy and cuddles down by the fire.*
Dave AWESOME drawing. The details on the dragon are amazing. And the colors Don…vibrant and brilliant. Love this! Maybe as a wallpaper?
Pixie,
A wallpaper is definitely a possibility.
BTW, if you thought the colors are vibrant in this picture, you should see them in the unmuted version. (this is a flashback afer all)
Oh Wisest of Wizards Don. I think you misunderstood my use of brilliant. I meant Inspired. I should have used that word. Oh I want to see it in non flash backy colors! (those are all words I swear!)
Is it just me or does the bride look familiar?
No, it’s not you, everyone around here who doesn’t look like Vasheeva looks like Gina and this one looks rather like Gina. Must be a lot of inbreeding in Terragard.

Heh… Kohr’s just a big softy.
Kohr is big, but you’ll soon see, he’s anything but soft.
Doesn’t any one in this world get a happy forever after…..LOL this is just beautiful to look at TEAM!!!! awesome awesome awesoem
Sure they do…at the same time everyone else does, at the END of the narrative… patience, Grasshopper, if this thing ever ends SOMEONE has to end it happily…
Jason,
Thanks, this one was a fun one to color, and it doesn’t hurt that I have an almost unhealthy fascination with dragons.
Very cool!
Does anyone remember “Rodan”? That was a movie about two flying dragon-esque monsters, which also has a scene where they devour a newly-wed couple.

Well, at least Kohr decided to spill his guts first as to how he came to do what he’s doing, and not to try and destroy Bill and Frank–yet…
Wait a second, is that Gypsy!?!
Not close enough of a resemblance; she looks more like Gina (freckles included). And we can rule out both Gina and Gypsy, because they’re still alive and this lass isn’t… unless David has a yet-unguessed trick up his sleeve…
Tricks abound, my dear Johannan… but which tricks shall be played? And what evil lurks in the hearts of men?
The Shadow knowssss.
I took a second look your probably right but she still seems to familiar to rule out as dead, Khor has yet to say if she died, so far only seperated.
Maybe she’s “dead” as far he “knows”…
Hm… were she *not* dead… who would she be now? Where would she be? What would be her motivation? Hm… so many variables… so many possibilities…
…but I suspect she’s probably actually dead.
OK, so if I bet the LONG shot here, I go with…
These two, while the bride dies, give birth to our fair Gypsy girl!
The way this story looks to be going, Kohr would be better served hitting on the Dark Princess.
