The gnome you’re thinking of is Giles, who is assigned to Bill. This is Gnome #13, who has yet to be named. 13 is the main gnome character in The Gnome Syndicate.
But, since the Gnome Syndicate has evolved, his personality has developed into something that just doesn’t fit. So, something more suave, I think now, more befitting a Very Interesting Gnome who can catch the eye of Agent Shirley. Perhaps even something grandiose, such as Beowülf Grendel (of the East Farthing Grendels, whom I understand to be a Gnomish Clan of reputable standing).
Thanks for a great strip, Kevin! Looking like everyone is about to catch a bath (unless Agent Shirley happens to wrap her research up about now).
so we have agent gnome that needs an name cant be calling him agent 13 forever now let have contest to name him{no rewards give just need to name that gnome that keeps getting into trouble.}
i say his name should be: Calvin
Bob, if you look at the gnomes there are subtle diffferences. Giles (Bill’s gnome) has a red hat and a green coat, while 13 has a red hat and a blue coat. If you reference the other times that the gnomes were distinctly featured, you’ll notice that there are many different colors of gnome hats (Red, blue, green and even camoflage).
What do the colors mean? Are they just reflective of the particular gnome’s fashion sense? Clan designation? Rank? Job function (Like Star Trek).
I’m sure it was unintentional, but this is a virtual copy of part of a page from Bone drawn in September 1991 by Jeff Smith. It’s page 47 in my giant one volume edition, but it was probably Bone #2 of the comic edition.
I’m loving these comments gang, and y’all are exactly right. Ever since I started the Gnome Syndicate, I’ve been dying to pay homage to Bone. I’m a HUUUGE Bone fan and have met and talked with Jeff Smith on a number of occasions. This is my , so not worthy, tip of the hat.
last time we saw our bearded buddy he was slammed out of his mind,
how did he get from completly drunk to avoiding bandits?
Hey Bob,
The gnome you’re thinking of is Giles, who is assigned to Bill. This is Gnome #13, who has yet to be named. 13 is the main gnome character in The Gnome Syndicate.
I really should do a character page.
Thanks!

I’ve advocated for some time now that he just be called Agent 13:

here the proof that agent 13 is not Giles..

Only in time will these questions be answered.
An homage to Bone! “Stupid, STUPID rat creatures!” (Do bandits like quiche too?)
Its a different gnome is how they are in two places.
What BONEheads

Ha! Classic.
Gee, no credit/apology to Jeff Smith?
Kevin must be either a fan of Sluggy Freelance (http://www.sluggy.com/comics/archives/daily/20071118) or of the comic Bone (http://www.boneville.com/bone/bone-history/). Regardless of which, like Marj says, it’s a classic line.
ha, bone
My first wife and i had a habit of observing the fur-bearing members of our household and observing “Stupid, stupid cat creatures!”
A very nice tip of the hat to Jeff Smith and one of my favorite graphic series.
Y’know, I think I read this in a book somewhere.
It came from Jeff Smith’s “Bone”. The original line, under very similar circumstances, was “Stupid, stupid rat creatures!!”
Well Bartimaeus.. I can throw you a “Bone” about where you might have seen similar
Nobody tell Jeff Smith!
