Drew today’s strip on paper, right smack in the 9×12 sketchbook (as opposed to my usual CIntiq 21UX). You can tell, too, lol. It always looks a little rougher this way, but a little more detailed in certain ways. Nice to mix it up now and again!
Next Episode: Thursday, Sept. 29! Note: Having a few tech issues if you noticed some wonkiness with the weekend strips and Monday’s strip… upgrading behind the scenes so it’s throwing things off a bit, bear with us!

Don KILLED on the coloring on this! It’s always a little more difficult to color the strips done on paper, so big UPS to Don for masterfully handling this as always!
i love it i always say hand drawn is better then anything it make more atmospheric drawings today on a computer tablet make seem easier to do now but lacks the real umph to the drawings compared to had drawn on paper.
Thanks David, I really like how Kohr turned out in the first panel.
The whole expression & general look of Frank in 2nd panel is what really caught my eye, as far as the hand-drawn feel goes. Made me really take a closer look at everything. Nice work, boys! I can definitely agree that Kohr more or less steals the show in this presentation.
Not sure exactly where this setup is going (and really looking forward to how it’s gonna play out!). I sort of ‘get it’ that Frank is probably smothering under the cape, although I’m also wondering if there’s a bit of an anxiety attack coming on. However, my first thoughts were that Bill might’ve ,,,uhrrrmm … sort of released a bit of stress there and the backdraft got trapped under his cape.
love the girl in the fish net stockings.
also love my little beatnik goblin. Maynard G. Krebs, G. for goblin no doubt..
i have to question franks head is visible in panel one. then in panel two, he just arose from bills pelt coat, decrying I CANT BREATHE
rereading this again, i see the figure in white cowl and cape is still conspicuous
a woman’s garment, perchance. a monk. enquiring minds want to kknow
White? It’s actually a beigey color.
you mean like vanilla
oh poor frank a panic attack from the slapping of the hand on the bar?
this wont be a good thing
Oh no, Frank get your head back down!
*falls back into a sleep coma!*
So we DO have a reason to watch the Hooded Figure.
Fae in the Stockings, hit the road. This is a family establishment – all the gratuitious violence you want, but no prostitution within the premises.
Besides, that Big Bad Dragon Hunter came very close to snuffing you just now.
dont choke just yet frank! we all want to see how bill holds his liquor
Aw geeze it had to be the dark brew…
One has to admire Frank’s loyalty to Bill. I am pretty sure he had ample opportunity to slip outside a door while Bill kept Kohr occupied. Looks like we are going to see the consequences of true friendship! Stay tuned!
(Excellent work, by the way, gentlemen. Top job!)
Can’t wait for Bill’s presumably comedic reaction to drinking the “strongest” ale!
Yes that will be interesting. Will Bill be able to hold his liquor, will he pass out, will he have a Roger Rabbit/Doc Brown reaction?
Stay tuned…
So, what do you guys think of the look of the strip done this way? I teeter on doing it this way allt he time sometimes… loving the barbaric comments btw!!!
Still on the fence with that. I like the clean crispness of the digital art, but sometimes having the hand drawn art is good too. On the plus side, the hand drawn strips would make some nice collectibles.
the way do your thing demands you alternate methods as mood affords.
whatever gives you the jazz, thats where you swing, as Maynard G. Krebs would say.
I like it. Looks more “real” somehow.
love it! it has this raw feel to it compared to tablad stuff
For me one of the best parts of the strip is the non-traditional drawing – the very anti-barbaric cleanness of the style makes the barbarity of the content all the more funny. It’s perfect for an accountant who dreams of being a barbarian.
I think switching it up now and then is a great!. My only problem is that I feel like I don’t get into an ‘inking rhythm’ until the last panel. You obviously don’t have that problem.
Whatever you drink Bill, just make sure that you have enough cookies. Still remembering the coat of furs. Similar to Joseph’s coat of many colors.
