i’m just going to go ahead and say it, and i’m only bothering (at risk of rabid fan reaction) bc i do love your work – you’ve gotten lazy with character design. when you were mocking trekkies, you had the knowledge and research needed to do a bang-up job of it. to satirize fantasy, you also need the relevant background knowledge. look at the big names in comics – their characters don’t all look EXACTLY the same, where the only difference noticeable is hair color or pointy ears. the elf, the fairy, these are weak, even for first efforts. take a look at what elves and fairies are – then your take on them will be recognizable, without each character needing to be labeled ‘fairy’ or ‘elf’ for the reader to identify it. i love the concept behind LOB and how it’s played out so far – and I know you’re busy with other projects at the same time. but i suggest you do a bit of homework and consider character design carefully before going to the sketchbook with elves and fairies. i think fantasy is equally worthy of your full attention as sci-fi. mock it with pride!
I have to concede agreement with spas. To be honest she looks more like Princess Gina cosplaying as a fairie. She needs more detachment and individuality.
spas & samsonguy, thank you for your honesty. I concede that this was a quick doodle in a small sketchbook, but nonetheless, it falls short of the characteristics required. Oh but I do love a challenge. It’s funny, having worked so much in sci-fi, I set out to do a fantasy webcomic not only because I love fantasy, but to get to know it more intimately, as it is such a vast landscape to explore and travel in. I am always learning. I always appreciate the love, the support, and the criticism when I am on, or off track.
Nice! She can hang out with the faerie from Ralph Bakshi’s “Wizards”!
A Roman Legionaire fairy?
agreed, ‘fairy’ design needs more work…
dave, you need a bar such as hootlies for all your females
