Quisp possibly reminded you of Jay Ward work because it WAS Jay Ward work – Jay Ward produced the TV commercials. Quake was voiced by William Conrad, who narrated Rocky and Bullwinkle. Quisp was voiced by Daws Butler, who also worked on Rocky and Bullwinkle, as well as Yogi Bear, Quick Draw McGraw, Snagglepuss, and Huckleberry Hound.
This is odd. I grew up in the early 70s, obsessively watching Saturday morning cartoons and commercials like any normal kid, I can still sing the words to just about every 70s commercial jingle from memory and I can tell you the plots of kids’ cartoons I haven’t seen in 35 years (though I can’t find my car keys I had 2 minutes ago). Despite this, I do not remember this Quisp fellow at all! What gives here? Was this a regional ad campaign only shown in some parts of the country? Am I the only one here who hasn’t heard of this guy? Has my memory been selectively erased by aliens? (If it’s the last one, don’t tell me, I’m better off not knowing)
Jay Ward did indeed to Quisp. I found a box of quisp in a store here in Seattle, it was ancient and never been opened. Still isn’t, it’s just cool to look at.
“Liking” Quisp, Qunchy and Quake is one thing, Role-playing Quisp (myself), Qunchy (my best friend Tim) and Quake (his brother Jeff) is another. Guilty!
I definitely remember the commercials (especially the “race from Long Island to Lompoc” storyline, and Quake changing from the miner’s-helmet-and-cape outfit to the Aussie getup), but my mom was never too keen on my sister and I eating those overly sugared cereals so we mostly ate Total, Special K or generic corn flakes.
quisp always reminded me of jay ward work from rocky and his friends.
gidney and cloyd, the moon men. quisp and gidney and cloyd all sounded and acted crazy.
*Raises hand.* Of Quisp and Quake, I think I liked Quisp better.

quisp was my favorite cereal when i was a kid! tasted kind of like cap’n crunch, shaped like saucers. meemoriees! lol! thanks.
I have a box, too! and a Quisp T-shirt! But I liked Quake better – I was a slow eater, and Quake held up better in milk for a longer period of time.
Ha! Thanks, gang! I sketches Quake as well, I’ll post it soon!
