Next Savage Episode: Monday. Feb. 7 – sketchblog updates daily - Join the Legend of Bill Facebook Fan Page HERE. And big applause to the Wizard Don for such an excellent coloring job as always!!
ok so i will be the first to comment on this. This is just pure sweetness! one of the best Bill strips yet! Don and David kicked serious BUTT on This one.
Well we finally get to see the Barbarian side of Bill come out. Nice job guys. The strip looks great, I love the red outline around Bill…very cool effect to make him stand out. The last panel is my favorite with the one bulging blue eye, the mouth agape in anger, the axe wielded high…great panel.
Love the red glow emanating from Bill! Excellent coloring Don! Can you have them eating Frank-roasted Orc after the battle? They ain’t human after all, and they probably taste like chicken…
Billzerk forever !
I love the red glow around Bill and his outstanding performance in this strip.
It truly looks like there is more in Bill that the Jerk he was used to be.
What comes next ?
Frank morphing to a flame trowing, flying Behemoth ?
And what happened to the sword in panel 3 ?
Interesting… Bill actually seems to be either transformed or surrounded by some kind of dark energy field. I wonder whether it was like this the first time he went Billserk (thanks for that term! ), or that this is an effect of his mind-meld with Vorrix/Warrix.
On a sidenote, I feel compelled to paraphrase a quote from an old T.V.-series: “Why should I bother bringing a weapon? If someone tries to use one against me, I can just take it away from them and use it myself. That way, -they- have to lug it all the way to the battlefield and -I- get the benefit.”
Wow! Way to go Bill! Seems like he’s not a complete doofus after all. Not when his friends are in danger anyhow. I fully expect Frank’s jaw to be on the ground with this show of force.
Whoa! This is gettin’ GOOD! Bill protecting his friends. If only these Dofus’s knew they had Queenie the whole time…in Gina…..Oh yeah, Don’t forget to go out and get LOTS of Pierogis, “Keilbasa” and Iron City to celebrate The STEELERS 7TH SUPER BOWL WIN!!!!!!!
Glad to see Giles staying clear of the flying blades – not the right time for a beard trim.
Thanks for supplying the link to the first Billserk arc. Funny how the style of the comic has incrementally changed over time to go unnoticed until you hit the archives. How long ago did Don come on board?
!!!!!!!!!!!! *clutches the pearls and gets the vapors*
Wah fiddle dee dee Mistah Bill I do declah! *fans self while perched on the settee, A La Scarlett*
Seriously guys…This is the best LoB i’ve seen yet. I am in love with the last panel! But I am a little worried about the red glow around our hero. Last time we saw it, it was during the trip to the past with Zaira (Gypsy’s name I’m hoping!). Right when Whoizface realized they were there.
Glad Giles got out of the way of the blades. I am excited to see what happens next.
hahahah @ Pixie. And I wholeheartedly agree with all my fellow commentators. Berserk Bill, how many way do we love thee…I probably can’t count that high, but just know it’s a helluva lot!! Though, I do gotta say, Bill seems to be pretty content with his ‘dark side’…maybe the future that Giles predicted isnt so far-fetched after all. (http://www.legendofbill.com/2010/11/22/the-legend-of-bill/)
We may very well be seeing the beginning of King Bill’s rise to glory…but, eh, what do I know? Anyway, Bill go ahead with your irradiating-aura-of-pure-bloodlust self!!
@TheDoctor – I’m sure the Steelers will win their seventh Superbowl, I’m just pretty sure it won’t be this year, GO PACK!!
@Blackbeards delight – I started at the end of August 2009. All of the great comics evolve over time Look at Peanuts, Garfield, Bloom County and PVPOnline, for example. Scott Kurtz has really improved as an artist since the start of PVP more than 10 years ago (so much, that the early stuff looks like it was drawn by a different artist). Check into the LoB archive in 8 or so years, and you’ll see the same kind of growth.
Well played, Bill is clearly insane with rage, right now. As for his mind meld with Warrix weren’t they in the gypsy’s head when they took that trip? So if anything wouldn’t she have that glow and not bill?
Most EXCELLENT comments, everyone! YES ou know your LoB history, to be sure! Hm… it does make one wonder where and why this slightly darkened/red glow is coming from or what’s happening to Bill… hmmmm…
Keep ‘em comin’! Lovin’ it!
And @Blackbeards delight – don’t try to win Don over with the Steelers – he’s from WISC-AH-NSIN!! hahaha
Just read from comic 1 till the last one, and I’ve gotta say: Wow! You guys keep impressing me more with every update. I just can’t stop reading
Great work guys, especially on the little details (like the bandage in this one)!
@Don – Thanks! Don’t worry about the archives, I’ve trawled through worse. Much worse. (Sluggy Freelance comes to mind, took two months to get through!) I gotta say though, it’s nice to find a comic as good as LOB right at that sweet spot when it’s established a good background, and has the whole world ahead of it.
*sprinkles Pixie dust on the new kids* Welcome! Glad you found our little slice of the Billverse. I, too, was hooked from the first comic I read and then had to go back to #1 and read them all in one sitting.
*sets more traps with cookies and Dark Queen/Gina pics.*
Some answers!:
The red glow: There is indeed an explaination for this, which will be revealed in time… oh yes… I am weaving a long story that intertwines anything you have seen, that makes you question what has come before! Bwah-ha-ha…
Gnome in middle panel: Behind-the-scenes confession: I originally penciled Gnome 12 making a snow angel there, lol… but I didn’t want that goofiness to detract from the drama that is Bill at this moment, so I left him mysteriously laying in the snow looking at the action, as if he’s been knocked over to the side, or simply (breaking the 4th wall a little) peeking upside down in the panel.
Gnome 12′s appearance: Confession, I have gone into a few old strips and, um, drawn Gnome 12 popping up randomly, lol…
Bill’s Berserker rage: Will be explained, hand-in-hand with the red glow…
Fate of the orcs, Gypsy and Princess Gina/Queenie: Oh, you shall see… you shall see…
>>>That little touch Bill gave Warrix gave something back to Bill–magic strength and courage, albeit a tad, shall we say, evil–?
sagg, i like the idea! that warrix gave something back to bill in that moment of contact. latent strength and courage he apparently already had, from the previous billzerk incident, which david linked back to – i had forgotten the previous incident! check it out. http://www.legendofbill.com/2008/09/04/the-orcs-are-back/ i think he is a wussy baby most of the time (an integral part of the hilarity here) but when chicks he cares about are threatened, some powerful, courageous bill takes over, like an alter ego. so now bill’s alter ego has magic as well?
@Balthazar- Welcome to the club, my friend! I know how you feel about going though web comic archives. It took me like two or three months to get through PVP… #*%$! I’d completely forgotten PVP! Dang it. Oh well, hope you enjoy your stay here and will tell your friends about this site.

rock, yes there is that eerie/warrix glow about him…hmmm.
especially seeing as i really and truly did not think bill had it in him. bill, you have no sleeves to be pulling these tricks out of!
I notice the bandage on Bill’s knee. It’s true, “the great ones play hurt”…
Bill is a Legend! Go Bill Go!
Save the Damsels in distress.
Wow! Way to go Bill! Seems like he’s not a complete doofus after all. Not when his friends are in danger anyhow. I fully expect Frank’s jaw to be on the ground with this show of force.

Pretty sweet! I’m just curious how the Gnome flipping through the air in panel 2 will report this? Great work guys!
ACTION!!
Stressed spelled backwards is desserts.
Glad to see Giles staying clear of the flying blades – not the right time for a beard trim.

Such a fierce attack, he even dislodged the gnome from wherever he was hiding
(top middle panel 2).
Well done. Nice to see Bill’s other side.
!!!!!!!!!!!! *clutches the pearls and gets the vapors*

P.S. The only thing I can hear in my head in Panel one is Bill going “B***H please!*
Orc Stew anyone???????
Love the ‘Billzerk’ term… very clever!!
I was starting to wonder in the first few comments if I was the only one noticing the gnome.
I see in later comments that I was not. Go Bill!
hahahah @ Pixie. And I wholeheartedly agree with all my fellow commentators. Berserk Bill, how many way do we love thee…I probably can’t count that high, but just know it’s a helluva lot!! O_O Go Billserk go!!
well he not armless now… wonder if splitting hairs involved
who needs a sword when you can just snatch one from your opponent! awesme job guys!
Bill’s Dark Side reminds me of when Jak of “Jak & Daxter” fame use to get hold of some Dark Eco.
See, what did I tell ya? Wondered if he’d go for the sword or the axe. Told you it was a very nice axe, didn’t I?
Thanks everyone, this was a fun one to color.

I love seeing Bill tweak out and rampage or go Billzerk. I guess we have to wait and see if he even remembers doing it this time.
That’s my Bill
Well played, Bill is clearly insane with rage, right now. As for his mind meld with Warrix weren’t they in the gypsy’s head when they took that trip? So if anything wouldn’t she have that glow and not bill?
nevermind, Warrix did search bill’s “mind” for a second, only to get fried by feedback. XD
Oh shi- He’s finally snapped! And he’s attacking those poor buisness orcs! RUN ORCS! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!

rock, yes there is that eerie/warrix glow about him…hmmm.
———————————-
Hmmm indeed. How’s this: That little touch Bill gave Warrix gave something back to Bill–magic strength and courage, albeit a tad, shall we say, evil–?
And one more thing: “Hey!” HEY?! Is that all a surprised orc can say?
Most EXCELLENT comments, everyone! YES ou know your LoB history, to be sure! Hm… it does make one wonder where and why this slightly darkened/red glow is coming from or what’s happening to Bill… hmmmm…

Already started Monday’s LoB, btw – WAIT ‘TIL YOU SEEEEE
I love how the Gnome agent shown upside in second frame. Maybe he had something to do with Bill surge of compentence?
HOLY BALLS! That is awesome! To bad Bill probably wont remember a thing. Again. Keep up the great work guys.
oh yes IT’S OAN!
Oh man, oh man! Congrats on this strip guys. Awesome.
Well, after finding the comic yesterday, and a subsequent 6 hour archive trawl, I feel I can safely say That I will be back Monday.
Also: BATTLE!
-balthazar.
And now it is trivia time as Bill axes a question out of the orcs.
@balthazar – Welcome!! It may have been a bit of a read, but we’re just getting started.
more tshirt possibilities, don’t know if I’d want the first or third frame though… outstanding how the story is coming together!
The weird thing is, when I looked at the strip, I thought, “Oh, Bill brings it…” Then I saw what David wrote in the notes
Go, Bill, go! *cheer*
Just read from comic 1 till the last one, and I’ve gotta say: Wow! You guys keep impressing me more with every update. I just can’t stop reading
Great work guys, especially on the little details (like the bandage in this one)!
Bill finally reveals he’s earned his barbarian chops…
I don’t believe that spindly wooden handle could support that huge axe-head…
I agree with Colt, it’s the gnome makes Bill go Berserk !
@David: That’s very evil of you, you know… we’re going to be twitching all weekend waiting for Monday!
@Don – Thanks! Don’t worry about the archives, I’ve trawled through worse. Much worse. (Sluggy Freelance comes to mind, took two months to get through!) What?
HAHAHAHA I need Panel 3 as a t-shirt with Don’t Toiuch Them across the…well the girls.
Hey David, How about an enlarged first panel for a desktop wallpaper?
Thanks Pixie!
Hmm.. I’ll skip your traps with cookies and go straight to the Dark Queen/Gina pictures
I’m already working on some fan-art.. Lol no, I’m not addicted!
I am sorry Bill, I know it is barbarian and all that but…………………………………………………………..you absolutely need a dentist!
so what’s with the gnome in the top right of the middle frame?
Some answers!:

Bill kicks butt, while the gnome takes names….

*Helps Pixie set more traps. But with FUDGE!*
In the final panel Bill bears a certain semblance to the barbarian in the first LoB strip.
Did I hear somebody say something about the Steelers and a seventh Lombardi trophy? Not this time, Pittsburgh! maybe next year?
Oh, and Bill is doing the classic berserker rage right now . . . sweet!
Most fictional non-humans underestimate fictional humans. Here is a shining example of why they shouldn’t.
And actually, looking back at some earlier strips (by both David and others) makes me think Bill’s teeth have transformed, too.
Thanks, team! Wait ’til you see what’s comin’!!!
Lovin’ the gnome… can’t help but wonder what he thinks of this whole ordeal…
wait, what in hell happened to the barwench tales and gnome syndicate strips?
