Love the Band-Aid!
My first thought @Panel 2 was: “If she were to sit on a bit of flypaper …”
I kinda see Gnome 12 as now being shadowed by an Agent that is something of a cross between Tinkerbell and Stella.
Man, that fairie seems so familiar… I can’t quite place it…
Is that the fairie version of Sarah the Barwench?
That ain’t Tinkerbelle!
Why is a band-aid on the fairies leg?
Unwritten… yes! This is actually better than Doc Brown appearing.
I wonder what’s up with the bandage on her leg…
What’s the significance of the elastoplast on the back of her leg?
>From expereience of Hersel’s ablutions, does it mean trhat
i) Fairies also have to shave their legs and sometimes bodge it;
ii) It’s too high up to be a case of women suffering for love of shoes (New Shoe Syndrome – rubbing a blister on the back of her heel, necessitating Elastoplast and something more foot-friendly when out of the public eye – ie, trade in the killer stliettoes for trainers or bare feet)
iii) Something Else.
Band aid? What about the belly button? I thought fairies hatched from eggs. I love the slightly over-sized panel one btw, great visual!
She prolly knick herself shaving. We have to look loverly for you menfolks.
HURRAY for Guiles and the newest Fairy. What’s her name?
THat should say knicked
And @ AgProv, elastoplast is bandaid? or in the generic term, bandage?
Now we’re going to have to look out for a hidden gnome and a hidden fairy in the backgrounds?
By the way, according to my vast cartoon research, when two characters start arguing as soon as they are introduced to each other, there is a 75% chance that they will hook up before the end of the series…’just saying.
I snyphosies with the Gnome.
I dig the Gnome aspect of the story, I think it’s my favorite part.
HA! GREAT comments, gang!
Just WAIT ’til Gnome-comics Sundays start (and who’s doing them!)
Yeah, the band-aid is one of those things I tend to toss in (I can’t help myself) … no rhyme or reason for it other than I figured the lil’ cutey cut herself shaving this morning.
3X: Sitting on flypaper… interestiiiiiiiing
Pixie: Her name will pop up in the next (Thursday) strip. I’m floating between Sylvia and Trixie. VOTE! Most votes win!
Marj: HA! Marj, you don;t know how right you are (sort of – see Thursday’s strip!)
Tom: Hey dude! Thanks, yeah, it’s a fun background element that I love playing with!
Who is watching the watchfaeries? Jeez this is like an Escher.
Did anyone mention yet that a big screen Smurf movie is on the cusp of release? ay carumba.
I KNEW the gnome was making it all up. Time is fluid! And Fairies are hot…female ones, not ones relaxing in soup.
TRIXIE!!!!
No, please not Trixie! Far too cliché. Sylvia (or some variant like Sylvie) has a bit more elegance, something that would wear well over the course of the entire story.
I’d rather have time to come up with something that might harken more toward Gaelic/Celtic roots, something slightly more exotic and in character with a fae. But, we still have not named the Horse, so waiting has it’s own dangers …
But (also) some off-the-cuff possibilities: Erin (or Éirenn, literally “Ireland”), Kiera (derived from “black” or “dark”), Moira (Celticized form of Mary), Teagan (“poet”), Onóra (or Nóra, “honor, valor”), Ríona (“pure”), Aurunia (“golden lady”), Brídin (“little exalted one”) … Áine (pronounced “Awnya;” literally “radience.” From Irish mythology, the name of the Queen of the fairies).
@Marj — that suggestion is dangerously close to invoking Rule #34.
@Jason — Fairies have belly buttons; it’s a requirement of their cuteness. Don’t care how they reproduce ,,, hmmm ,,, well maybe I do, but that’s not relevant to belly buttons.
Gnome-comics Sundays?!? WOO! More of the Billverse for us to see. Can’t wait.
YAY! More comics for me to read on Sundays!!!!
Well, i guess right about the future not quite what it seen. Think it was big parody of Conan. Whole series is in a way. Its going be interesting times now Bill being doubly hunted.
Name contest? Really. Why not just go to the Serendipity Name Generator online and see what pops up? (Yeah, a Web search will find it.)
@3X Who said she was Gaelic/Celtic anyway? I can honestly say I hate each and everyone of those names.
I think Trixie is perfect because of it’s cutesy tone. She is after all…Cute. And her Parents probably liked her and would not name her something that sounds like an old lady. IMNSHO
Hi Pixie
Hopefully I’m not the only Brit to have switched on to David Reddick’s brilliantly funny take on fantasy fiction. (I am cetainly reccomending it!)
DR writes one of the two most consistently funny laugh-out-loud fantasy spoof cartoons anywhere (the other being BratHalla). This should be made more widely known than it is. and this endorsement comes from a follower of the Greatest Living Englishman, Sir Terry Pratchett, whose take on gnomes is a little bit more anarchic and deconstructive… (Crossover idea: Bill comes up against gnomes as depicted by Pratchett…they’re six inches tall and part of the Faerie kingdom, but that’s as far as the similarity goes!)
Oh, and an”elastoplast” is indeed British Enghlish for a band-aid. One of those many local peculiarities….
She’s cute. Now if he can just get her to shut up! Trixie maybe, but yeah it sounds a little cliche. How about Tessela, or Tess for short?
Hi AgProv! I don’t think you are the only Brit we have in our happy little slice of the interwebs.
If I might ask, What does “AgProv” stand for/mean?
And yes I completely agree, Dave (and Don) has an amazing way of taking tyhe fantasy world and making it both fun and exciting at the same time (Bravo Sirs!).
I love learning new words from other Countries for the things we have here in the States. I was watching Cake Boss a few weeks ago and learned they call cream cheese…Philadelphia. Apparently it’s the only brand they get so that’s how they know it. I have an elastoplast on my right pinky. Stoopid hangnail!
VOTE! Most votes win! The fairy’s name : Moxie
I second Moxie. Perfect.
heh. Tinkerbell, she ain’t. There must be different sized fairies running about. The last time we saw a fairie (on Vorix’s feeding table) it was about the same size as the gnome.
My vote is for Sylvia, it’s fitting and doesn’t sound cliche for a fairie like any name ending with -xie (Pixie, Trixie, Moxie, Floxie, Clichexie, etc…). Not to mention there’s already a group of webcomics that flies under the banner of ‘Pixie Trix Comix,’ who’s mascot is a fairie named Trixie.
And I’m not sure about the city of Philidelphia itself, but if you ask for cream cheese anywhere else in the US without using the term ‘cream cheese,’ you will most likely end up with something that is not in fact cream cheese.
Rotten flying Barbies..!
@ DadaHyena HEYYYYY!!!!! I resemble that remark!
And I like -xie names thank you.
Sylvie was the name of the main character at a popular halloween attraction in Central Florida this year. Does not apply to this fairy at all!
If I have to vote for something other than Trixie it would have to be Moxie…cause this lil Fairy has it in spades.
Pixie: I see my original (long and off-topic) comment went. So just to say it started as “AgentProvocateuer” and was shortened to make for less typing. “Sylvie” feels about right for the faery – the name evokes “Sylvan” or “Of the forest”. Which is perfect! Although Hazel (Nut) might work too.
