Shades of Conan, indeed. A young barbarian adventurer saw his future fate as king of a mighty nation, at least according to Roy Thomas, and now LoB readers get to see the evntual future of Bill, former accountant. But, as the gnome says, that is a tale for another time–this is just the appetizer.
Considering past governing rulers in the history of the *real* world, I can’t believe Bill would do much worse, heck most politicians are cartoon characters anyway.
Hi guys, long time Bill reader here, I’m fishing here but I’ve been trying to locate another webcomic that I never bookmarked and I can’t even remember which of my favorite comic websites the banner used to be located on, probably just one of those random ads.
Comic featured dragons trying to stop an invasion of demons through a rift that was just starting to form. Apparently there had been a similar invasion in the past and they were trying to stop it from reoccuring. There was one female black dragon that was able to riftwalk to the other side and got her butt kicked while scouting and one of the elders was nuked dead by backlash when they used magic to try and seal the rift from their end. That’s about as far as the comic was before the updates ran out and I haven’t been able to locate it since.
OK, so in the next panel PLEASE tell me that Doc Brown and his family swopp in on their hovercraft train and explain to the Gnomes, faries and Bill that the future hasn’t been written yet!
On the other hand, guys always do like the ‘bad girls’ more. They seem hotter and like they’ll make life all kinds of fun, when all they do is make it all kinds of HELL! Sorry, been there and done that! >.<
Ya know on second thought, Vasheeva really wasn’t all that bad until Vorik screwed her over. Maybe Bill could be getting the best of both worlds in her?
I’m predicting that Vashy will change her ways after Bill does away with the Dark Underlord. After all, she doesn’t look very evil in that last panel—why else would she wear white?
DANG IT, David. You ruined the surprise ending to it all. Unless, of course, the future can still be changed. Oh, well, the ride there will still be fun and filled with laughs.(mostly at Bill)
Here I was thinking it was like a “clip show” ie; that episode where they just show clips of the previous season. Just Dave cutting and pasting from old strips to fill air time. Then I get to the last panel!
Nice work doing a big reveal, yet throwing out even more questions. OK, Vasheeva, but who is it really? What happens to Frank? Court numpty? What about Gipsy? Court go-go girl? Gnome 12?
And, what about the one in Gina’s body, whoever it is?!?
The ultimate full-circle irony here is; after all these adventures Bill ends up in a boring government job after all!
Wasn’t the report describing the a future that once was or foreseen? That time has been altered? Quote “Would effect the timeline”
I would wager that would were seeing whas foreseen future, not the actual.
Thank you, friends! Don’t feel lost… answers will come, and the story is about to take a more active move forward… hold on to your seats! Much will be revealed! Back in the saddle, baybay!!
Fairy 7 – Fat Elvis has Left the Room! (hope he was replaced by a cuter fairy that we might get to see). Agent Gnome 13! Exxxxcelllent! Who know’s? Maybe 13 is a lucky number in the Billverse. MwaaHaaHaHaHaHahaaa !!!
“Much has happened, as was foretold” is a key line with many open interpretations. I read here that Gnome 12 has witnessed many of the things foretold, but seems to imply that some things have not … either yet happened or (perhaps) some … alterations … have now come into effect.
He also appears to be writing in the present tense of the current storyline, as I note all the late fall colors of the background. If that’s the case, then the final panel is “only” prophecy, and has not (yet) come to pass.
King Bill’s hair/beard has turned much lighter brown, in addition to graying. Looking closer at the final panel, I’m not sure it’s such a doofus or doomed look on his face. He just seems rather serious. Possibly, there is a glimmer of wisdom and some worldly experience there (I know! I know … it is a blaspheme that I speak, so be it upon my head!).
@Insectoid — “Vashy will change her ways after Bill does away with the Dark Underlord” Dork Underwear. Fixed. I think that would improve any woman’s mood …
Future Queen Vasheeva looks more than a bit like the Frost Queen. So, I wonder if she has retained her magical powers, but they have shifted some by the time of this scene. We cannot see her trademark fangs or elf-ears, or even for certain if her eyes are still red. No matter, she looks fantastic with or without them, and I look forward to the day when we see a portrait of her to determine those features.
The look on her face is just as doting and contented as from her early youth … so, here’s hoping for the best. If that truly is a glimpse of the actual future, it bodes well for her happiness. And, I don’t think Bill could remain such a total dunderhead as we know him now and she would still be so happy. It would seem the look on her face would be more in line with Psycho Sarah on a particularly frazzled Saturday night if Bill didn’t grow some (And, I do NOT mean grow up! Bite your tongue!).
It seems Bill may well have been (or will be) Vasheeva’s salvation, even if doomed to be her husband. Possibly the look we see here is merely the look of a father who survived raising three or so children who were exactly as wild as their parents …
Side Note: I don’t see credit for Don’s hand on the colors. I’m so used to seeing it that it kinda stuck out. I know he did at least some of those panels, and I have faith he’s still on board … right, guys?
‘Cause … if there’s a change like that on Team Bill, you’d be tellin’ us all, right?
3X (and everyone else) – Don’t worry, I’m still here and will be here as long there is a strip! The reason I didn’t sign it is because I didn’t color all of the strip, this is a compilation of colorists. I colored panels 1 & 3 for this strip as those are new panels, panel 4 I colored for the comic book and I colored panels 3b and 3c. David colored panels 2 and 5, while I was just still a LoB reader, and panel 3a was colored by Josh Ulrich.
3X, good eye on King Bill’s (William’s?) hair color. I did lighten it, figuring that he was older and going gray. But, did you notice something else’s color? I’ve been doing it since I started coloring the strip. It’s got the same color everytime it appears in the strip.
@Pixie – Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of room under my hat.
So our man Bill has a destiny…most intriguing!
The truly interesting thing about this little tidbit of information is the lurking question: Will our hero follow his destiny? In the strip the gnome chronicler points out that Bill has made the choice to ‘leave the life that was prepared for him’ and walk his own path once already. There’s no reason he couldn’t do it again…
Much like the opening narration for Howard’s “Conan,” hinting that Conan would be king … but that’s another tale. I can’t say I’m surprised. Gina and Bill aren’t really compatible. I never considered the gypsy as Bill’s love interest. And that leaves Vashy, who, for all of her supposed evil, is really a likeable character. I’m glad to see that it all turns out good for Bill.
Ähem, Frank is in the picture – did you really believe that the background is a wall? That are two scales near his belly – he just matured a bit and went from blue to grey.
Gnome 12 sure is balsy, sitting right next to a Smurf village! And Bill#1? #1? We truly are seeing just the tip of the Billverse iceberg! David, you sly dog!
Dun dun dun!
:O
I am shocked. SHOCKED, I tell you!
($10 says that’s future queen is Gina in Vasheeva’s body).
shades of Conan.
Loving Vasheeva with the white hair. King Bill….very scary!
I always did feel the Dark Queen was a better match for Bill…
Ow….you made my brain hurt. I am completely and utterly lost. But at least I’m pretty so…there’s that!
The art work and coloring are both AMAZING! And HURRAY for back to the story and for Guiles and for the sttopid fairy blowing his cover….Dumba$$
Old Bill? With full-face beard? Whoa… I had always just assumed he couldn’t grow a beard. We’ve only seen him shave a couple of times.
Well ain’t that a slap in the pants! Ya know, ol’ Vasheeva looks positively pleasant in that last panel!
Oh my, Bill looks angry in the last panel. Gotta love it when a throwaway gag turns out to be part of the plot.

Future Bill looks constipated.
@ Scott King, he probably is. Hence the “doom” part.
OOooh!

Anyone know the comic I’m referrring too?
I’m digging that beard of Future Bill. I agree with sylveran01 about Princess Gina being in Vasheeva’s body.

Me wanty the last panel as a background. Please!!!!
O.o

Whoa!! Awesome recap. I love future Bill.

Whoa! Just…whoa.
The fae & the Gnomes are in cahoots. I knew it!
Bill is doomed to be married … hehehehe!
Queen Vasheeva is ravishing. Wow!
So where is Frank in all this Future History?
Thank you, friends! Don’t feel lost… answers will come, and the story is about to take a more active move forward… hold on to your seats! Much will be revealed! Back in the saddle, baybay!!
Are we going back to the meanie bobeanie who eats the magicals?
You know where I’ll be…*goes back under Don’s hat*

“His doom… both save and destroy him… (Queen Vasheeva, wife of King Bill)”… hmm…
Actually, his doom to me looks to be bored to death.
Speak for yourselves, victims of bad chicks. Gina’s mnd in Vasheeva’s body would work perfectly for me. Can one hope that’s what happens in this plot?
So these gnomes, they’re like, what… secret masters of the realm?
A few observations, now that I’ve more time.
Fairy 7 – Fat Elvis has Left the Room! (hope he was replaced by a cuter fairy that we might get to see).

Destroys him because he may finally get a clue? I think Frank isn’t in future picture since he could have grown too big for the picture!

WHAT.
I think this tale is too anxiety-wreaking to save for another time! We must know now!!
Happy Turkey Noming day All!
Waaaaait a minute…is that Ed Asner in panel 4?
