Prepare yourself for a storyline that will reveal who the Underlord is… and some interesting background on some other characters along the way that you already know…
Next Episode: Monday, May 31 – sketchblog updates daily!
Please, please keep the vast majority of your postings here and not on Facebook. I recently left that evil empire and really don’t want to be forced back. Love LOB!
mk15 – that’s a tattoo of protection… with spell symbols on it… lol, I made it up.
Wait till you see this in color! And wait till you see the NEXT strip!! This tale is about to begin and revelations ABOUND!!
LOVE the close-in portrait of Gypsy in panel #2! She’s absolutely lovely! I liked very much the perspective profile on her from panel #1 in the previous strip. Tattoo is a superb & subtle touch.
Sepia is working just fine. As for the comment regarding this ‘needs’ color: Not really. However … IF color were to be added, I’d suggest in panel #1, only inside the ‘bubble’ that Gypsy & Bill & Frank are in, since they are technically still in ‘reality’ and transitioning into Gypsy’s vision.
As far as Gypsy’s name … I’ve kinda taken it as “Gypsy,” until further notice. She’s actually some sort of a magician/soothsayer in the Billverse. We observers from outside the Billverse just see her fashion choice as familiar with a stereotype from our world.
If David is up for it, perhaps the regulars around here could float possible names for her over the coming weeks ..?
I think David has been kind enough to allow us to interact with his creativity and his characters quite a lot. However, there are lines we shouldn’t cross because, in my view, there is the danger of too many cooks attempting to impose their fantasies into someone else’s vision.
I’m really just enjoying the strip for what it is. My own fan fics are (more or less) staying right inside my head for my own entertainment. I don’t want to impose them on or pollute the Q’tinuum of David’s (or anyone else’s) creative works.
But, I’m not shy about my observations & suggestions either!
@Russel – I don’t want to get in trouble with Dragon Burger corporate [Dragon] so [Burgers] I [are] won’t [made] say [with] anything [chicken].
@3Xp4t – I was thinking about having them in color in the flashback in panel 1 too, but it was late Thursday when I started coloring the strip, and it’s been a busy week (Corporate Sales meeting this week for the day job). If I have time over the weekend, I’ll give that a shot.
@Everyone else – No one has mentioned the somewhat hard to see detail hidden in panel 1 yet. +500 bonus points* to the fisrt one to mention it here in the blog.
* – Bonus points are not redeemable for cash and have no actual value.
I love the Gypsy’s expression in panel two, still trying to play the mysterious and faintly spooky wise woman, only to be reminded that the effort is wasted on Bill.
@Don: The problem is that none of the hard-to-see details seem to have any significance of themselves. +500 bonus point for you if you tell us what you have in mind before we all go blind (or mad) looking for what you have in mind.
All I can see are dots that look like footprints, a banner that seems to be in Vorik’s castle, spittle from Frank’s mouth, a face on Vorik that looks vaguely reminiscent…Am I even getting close?
Oooooh. I thought David removed the gypsy’s sleeves from her original design so we could see all her bracelets. Now I see that it was to introduce underarm bush.
wow. I’m the first one to comment.WOO!
BTW, great comic, it it could use color.
Lily: If only because it’s harder to spot the hidden troll in the regular line drawings!

Dont forget the diet Coke
I guess it’s a good thing Bill wasn’t undressing the gypsy in his mind, or she might have smote him with a gypsy curse.
Bill’s still hungry, I see! LOL!
Haha! that Gypsy doesn’t deserve this
And while she’s at it, could she also project a giant root beer float? root beer floats should be the official drink of barbarians everywhere.
oh yeah, what’s that on her wrist? Looks like a Bagua (chinese compus for feng shui)

You got me, David. World-class LOL. +50 Awesomeness, Dude.
Lovin’ the sepia tones for the flashbacks!
I love the Sepia. It really brings out the subtle textures in the background. Nuthin’ like ol’ skool flashbacks.
Ok I still love the sepia tones for the flash backs.
I agree with mk15 Root beer floats make with A&W fountain rootbeer FTW!
Where’s the GNOME?! DIdn’t he hitch a ride?
Oh Bill…Barbarians will be Barbarians I guess.
Nice Tattoo of protection Dave!
Hahahaha so Frank’s a cannibal?
I… I am somewhat at a loss for words. ^^; Little Dragon Blue’s last comment may require some brain bleach, if I’m not careful.
The gypsy lady – will we ever get a name for her? – becomes more awesome by the strip, by the way.

Thank’a you, David! Thank you, Don!
Silly Bill…you are so unpractical. You need 5 hot bar wenches to serve a supersize dragonburger.

Oh Samson, Bill is doing his part for the economy by only using 3. He’s got to count his shillings like the rest of us.
Whoa… Do I see underarm hair on the gypsy in panel 1 or is that a continuation of her locks? :-O
@Don: ::stares at panel 1 for a few minutes:: Not seeing anything gnomish or unusual…
mmm Don i don’t see the hiden detail in panel one except the fact that Vorik is Taurik ‘s twin brother and has nothing to do with Warrix
I love the Gypsy’s expression in panel two, still trying to play the mysterious and faintly spooky wise woman, only to be reminded that the effort is wasted on Bill.
Is it that flag that is in panel 3 appearing in the flashback?
(Assuming that everything outside the bubble is the flashback of course)

Ruben nailed it. Tribbles I see …
Tribble-pit?
@Ruben – You are correct sir! (+500 bonus points to you). We now see why Frank called her “Tribble Pits”.

Color: great idea, admirably executed!
