Next Episode: Monday, April 26th - and featuring Larry Elmore’s 2nd drawing of Snarf meeting Bill! - sketchblog updates daily!
Strip notes: I’ve been enjoying drawing closer shots of Frank in these past few strips… he’s such a fun and easy character to draw, and it’s fun to show some facial expression in the closeups… I’m also enjoying the foliage in the background (and I love to draw cartoon trees), simple as it may seem, it looks (thanks to Don’s expert coloring) deep and rich. A stark contrast to the frozen wasteland they will soon embark upon!

Very observant, Frank! LOL at the horse.
GNOOOOOOME!!!
HA! For a mime whose facial expression hasn’t changed, that gnome finally got a good chuckle out of me. This was just a great setup and delivery, including Frank’s eyes in the last panel. Thanks, David and Don.
David–RE: last sentence under “Strip Notes” “A contract to the …” Should that read “contrast?” (Sp -5pts.)
lol brilliant. Love the horse as well!!
Wow that Gnome has finally joined the party!
loving the background delails!
That gnome’s getting a little DARING this time, ain’t he?
When are we going to name that narcoleptic horse, BTW? (Sleepnir, or even Sleepnear, seems so perfect for him!
)
Was the goat somehow shock-frozen…?
If you pulverize them, they’re way easier to carry, like army rations in a heatable bag… Very nice close-ups!
Fun fact of the day: Garten gnomes are based on German miners, who used to wear red hats to work.
I especially loved their narcoleptic horse in the background. Sweet!!
The gnome finally gets his due! I gotta say, though… the narcoleptic horse is one of the best running gags.
lol, the horse. is there a name for it yet?
Why am I now singing wrong B52 lyrics to a L.O.B. strip. Gnome if you want to, Gnome around the world! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Light on his feet and what a vertical what a gnome
OMG I finally got the gnome. Wow…I’m a lil slow!
I think the horse needs a name too! Ummm Snoozy? Sir Napsalot!Ummm…Snuggles?
Sure. Crazy. Dreaming. zzzzzzz
After reading today’s strip, I realized: I’ve never visited Don’s website. So I went looking for it. But where might it be?
Don do you have a website? Your colors are great, I’d like to see more of your work.
@kwo – You’d think that as big of a computer geek as I am, that I’d have a webpage out there. Well, in real life, I’m rather quiet. I’ve been meaning to put something together for a while now, but just haven’t found the time to get it done. However, since you asked real nice, I can at least offer you the relatively meager portfolio that I put on FaceBook (it’s only 4 pictures, and one of them is a photograph of the Frank-o-Lantern from Halloween). When I get some freetime, like, between 2-4am, which I foolishly spend sleeping, I’ll post a few more pictures that I’ve colored. Until then, here’s the Facebook gallery:

Aw, poor narcoleptic horse. =(
Zak, dont feel bad for the nameless one (whom, Don keeps reminding me that I need to kick start the naming of forthwith!!)… he’s also just reaaallllly lazy.
@Don: That Frank-o-Lantern is totally awesome!
Pixie: HA! Glad it caught you by surprise!

Don (not-LoB-colorist-Don): I had no idea that was the origin of the garden gnome. Awesome! Thanks for the tidbit! That may also explain the Snow White dwarfs and their lil hats that look very gnome-ish!
kwo: Good point!
Don: Dude – your fans await!
Old Crow: Oops – you’re right!
Insectoid: Agreed. I LOVED that sucker when don sen tme pix. I need to get it in the LoB Facebook Fan Page “Fan Art” album (slowly building that page up with ALL fan art and guest strips and such!)
Don – what’s next? The Gnome-o-lantern? LOL!
HORSE NAME: I am so sorry for the delay. I get all busy and I need to organize the naming. I need to compile all names now, and get a Forum contest rolling. It WILL be done! Thanks for being patient!!
Gnome on, peeps!!
I’m pretty sure the gnome’s just there to offer them savings on their vacation.
save on their hotel and airfare right Duckamuck:)
The pointy-hat outfit of the dwarves (and gnomes) may go back even further, to the portrayal of the Cimmerians by Darius on a famous giant bas-relief. (Cimmerians? Didn’t Conan allegedly run around with that bunch? How appropriate, huh?) That’s a long time ago, about five centuries plus BC if memory serves. (Another “I read it in a book somewhere” moment from Your Friendly Neighborhood ENFP…)
Gnomes are everywhere. Today on the news there was a story about a hose that burned down, behind some charred beams was a gnomish red hat sticking out. All I could do to stop myself looking for Bill and Frank in the background.
oops, meant a house that burned down. (dumb ol’ typo)
Nope, no gnome here…move along, nothing to see.
Honey, I Shrunk the Santa Claus?
