Name Bill’s Horse contest! It’s on! But first – I need your help!
on February 18th, 2010So I’ve decided to hold a contest to name Bill’s horse. This horse will appear occassionally in the strip, but not all the time. And I’ve decided that the prize will be that I will draw the winner into a Legend of Bill strip!! Yes, YOU could gaze upon the Dark Queen’s… eyes! Stand beside Bill and Frank as they banter aimlessly! Lose a finger by touching Princess Gina’s pink hair!
But first… how do we go about setting it up? Voting? How should we pick the winner? What if 5 people come up with the same name that is chosen? (In the words of Duncan McLeod, “The can be only one!”)Do we hold it in the forum? A comments section in the blog? I’m looking for suggestions, folks! Let’s get interactive! Let’s start he discussion. Huzzah!
**The fine print: The name of the horse, like the horse of course, will remain from here to eternity the property of the head horses arse honcho, (without remorse), David Reddick. But I’m sure you knew that. But it’ll be fun… to endorse… such a course of action. *groan*

I would suggest posting ideas to the forum first.
If people suggest the same name, then it should be that the first person that posted that name gets to own it for the competition. (forum is date/timestamped, so should be easy to determine who was first.).
Then, choose 5 of the best, and then let readers vote on the winner.
Easy!!
agent-x, I just created an unoffical forum thread for name Bill’s horse. When there is enough suggestions, a poll can be created for selecting the Horse’s name. You’ll just need to register for the forum to enter your suggestions and then eventually vote.
I agree with agent-x and Don. The forum seems the perfect place to present the candidates.
P.S. I think this is a very creative prize, David. I’d love to be immortilized, Reddick style.
Need to know, is it a mare, stallion, or most appropriate for Bill, a gelding? That’ll influence the name, and of course it’s demeanor in future strips.
I recommend Sir Tinnemous the Rad from the Green and Blue Hills of Dawn, home of the Holy Goddess Valdenia of the Morning Glory Pantheon, the lightening steed of wandering heroes……or Donny for short XD
Hey a noble steed needs a noble (if not annoyingly long) name.
No fair! It’s not letting me register in the forums!
I’m placing my entry here, so I can be sure to get it out there early. I think his name should be Howard. Named after, of course, Robert E.
Wow, I want in on the name suggestion. Hope nobody uses my suggestion before I’m approved on the forum.
I’m going to throw my suggestion here so nobody can grab it before me.
Bill’s horse’s name is Rockit or the correct english spelling Rocket! I’m just waiting for approval to the TT forums.
My suggestions is Charger – because when ever he needs to charge himself up, he takes a nap.
Hate to toot the website, but you could have a live contest in real time over at Comic Chatcast. It’s always open.
Alpo.
will not let me add either
My suggestion is Horatio Othello Rudolph Sebastian Eustace or HORSE for short.
Bob.
Bob is an awesome name!
It’s not letting me register in the forums as well, mumbling about some multiple account… I think Rosie is very suitable name for Bill´s heroic horsey
Valium or Muzak. Both put me to sleep nicely.
Glad to see others are having the same problem and it is just not me. My suggestion would be Sleepnir. After the Steed of Odin.
These are excellent so far! Okay – having issues with the forums obviously – it’s being looke dinto – in the meantime, just post righ there! I will move thos post upwards a few times to keep it going, and then we’ll figure out how to vote! Suggestions?
Nappy Lumpkin – related to Fatty Lumpkin of LoTR fame
Bill the Horse – as opposed to Bill the Pony or Bill the Barbarian
also for those who are having problems joining the forum you need to not just follow the link and try to registar. Once you go to the link reset the web address and then try to registar. Worked for me. I am now waiting to be confirmed.
I’ve tried quite a few times since then. Nothing!
I think that Romeo is a good name for Bill’s horse.
I had registered prior and had no problem posting my suggestions there. To reiterate my updated thoughts: Alpo is copyrighted, although Alp or Alpie suggests both that and perhaps a high white mountain (he is white, after all). But I have better suggestions IMO:
1) If a stallion: Jester (what better horse for a fool who rushes in where angels fear to tread?).
2) If a mare: Shirley (as in “Shirley you just?”, which was Frank’s reaction when he looked this particular gift horse in the mouth).
Oops: “Shirley you JEST!” Just for the record.
It’s obvious, but will add to the confusion: Bill has cited the horse’s name already.. “This horse, Frank”
honestly, I’ve always wanted a horse with 2 strong names… one being Finnius (Finn for short) or just go with the basics… like Stegosaurus.
The Ad Hoc Steering Committee thought of that, Chuck, but we were hoping nobody would notice.
(David: Who’s on the Ad Hoc Steering Committee?)
(Don Kuehn: I dunno. Maybe it consists of Rakkav and Frank.)
(David: Frank?!? The dragon or the horse?)
Not to put too fine a point on it, but I’m gonna suggest the name Snores for the gallant steed. Mostly because it would seem Bill would miss that clue in purchasing the horse. Yea though I ride through the valley of Death, I shall worry only that my steed shall sleep partway through…
Let’s face it, Liam, we ALL missed the clue because the Honored Master forgot to tell us first that the horse was narcoleptic. Even Bill was better informed than we were!
)
That said, you have probably just won “Cimmeria’s Got Talent” with that name.
How about Narco or Shuteye/Shudeye.
