The story so far: Princess Gina (trapped in the Dark Queen Vasheeva’s body ), in her search through the Dark Queen’s closet for something more sensible so she and the wizard craven can FINALLY get out of the DQ’s lair, (or CAN she even leave?) has managed to unearth several more outfits (not to mention a few disturbing stuffed animals in her room) that allowed this lil’ ol’ cartoonist to have some fun with more of my favorite webcomic’s women’s outfits in this, my 3rd and final installment in my “tribute” strips.
Appearing in order: Codex from The Guild, Zii from Menage a 3, Agatha Heterodyne from Girl Genius, Sister Claire from Sister Claire, Jevee Ceeta from Schlock Mercenary, Lian from Marooned, Devil Jennie from The Devil’s Panties, and Yenny from Yenny! It’s been a lot of fun paying some tribute to several of my favorites these past 3 strips. There are several more I wanted to pay tribute to, but, alas, there’s only so much space!
BIG thanks to Wizard Don Kuehn for his expert coloring of the strip. Funny how a splash of excellent color can really bring the characters to life (and make them all the more recognizable!) Everyone give a big hand to Don, who colors LoB every week!
Next Episode: Thursday, Jan. 14th – back to the story at hand (thanks for indulging me in this very fun tip o’ the hat endeavor), getting these two out into some fresh air and on the trail of not only Gina’s real body, but also looking for Bill – they got a barbarian to save! First – i’ts outfit time (see sketch below)!

Whoa, how freaking awesome. Bring the colors my friend.
AHHHHHHH! Did that go through? Anyway the full panel strips rock. Awesome work David.
All I recognize is Sister Claire from Sister Claire.
Well, I recognize Agatha Clay-Hetrodyne from Phil and Kaja Foglio’s “Girl Genius, and Yamino’s “Sister Claire“; but I’m afraid I don’t recognize any of the other characters.
That girl from “The Guild”
Agatha Clay/Heterodyne from Girl Genius
Sister Claire
….
and that’s all I recognize ;<
“Says the woman who wears teacups for a bra…AND A FRIGGIN’ LOINCLOTH!” “Gaslamp” is Agatha from GIRL GENIUS, “Devilish” is Jennie from THE DEVIL’S PANTIES, and “Futuristic” #1 (leftmost) looks to be some weird combination of Seven of Nine and T’Pol. The rest, I have no idea, but they look damn good, Dave!
Woo!
Let’s start the train wreck a-rolling!
#1 The vivacious Codex (played by the beautiful Felicia Day)
#2 Zii (from Menage a 3)
#3 Agatha Heterodyne (from Girl Genius)
#4 Sister Claire (from… you guessed it… Sister Claire)
… aaand that’s where you got me stumped… though I KNOW I’ve seen #7 before… but for the life of me I can’t think of where…
Carry on, noble readership!
Hmm, first one is from the Guild, second one is Zii from Menagea3.net, 5th one is Seven of Nine? Dont know the rest
Devil’s Panties!
The one in the middle to be Breya from Schlock Mercenary, although I don’t ever remember her wearing epaulets or having pointy ears.
Maybe Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the right end?
Ha, great stuff David. #6 Is Lian from Marooned. Thanks for the cameo David!
I see a certain mindstone wielding Mars Explorer in the group.
Isn’t the 6th the human girl from Marooned?
#6 is Lian from Marooned.
Love it! Thank you for showing GWS, and Devil’s Panties.
The 6th one looks like Lian Fisher from Marooned.
Gotta love sexy and drafty…
#1 – Codex (The Guild), #3 Agatha (Girl Genius), #8 Yenny (Yenny). Thats all I got.
Love the Zii tribute, but with her build, I think DiDi would have been more appropriate.
The Batwings, #7, I guess, my best guess is Morganna or whatever her name is from that one crazy CapCom video game. Batwings, tights and tits…
TEACUPS?!?!?!?
WTH……Those are pasta bowls at the very least
Don’t know who’s who…but that’s not stopping me from enjoying the comic!
#8 – Yenny
I’m not sure on most, but #1 is Codex from The Guild, and #2 is Zii from Menagé a 3.
Thanks, gang! and now, replies-o-rama!
RC: Right you are!
reynard61: Bravo!
Kalooeh: Well done thus far, young Padawan!
Blade: Excellent! Wait ’til it’s in color – it’ll be SO much easier, seriously. when you get used to seeing certain characters in color they are immediately recognizable not only by certain aspects but by their COLOR schemes! (at least i think so)
Erik: Nice 7 of 9 reference, but…. lol
Anon: Why thank you! I like them too. Oh, wait. You mean the COMIC. OOHHHHHH… Yes!
Dave: Right you are (again – color will define them all much better), and Buffy… nice guess, but…
Tom Dell’Aringa: Most welcome, bud! Love Marooned, and love that character in particular! Keep up the great story!
Matt Forcum: lol – good eye! But still no Hawaiian shorts!
Karen: Right you are, Karen!
Josh Ulrich: Bammo! (what’s up, Josh! Lords and Ladies, Josh colored the 6-page comic book format short story in the forthcoming comic book and several previous LoBs right here at LoB.com – and check out his great webcomic Newman at http://www.NewmanComic.com !)
Malaficent: You are most welcome, and thank YOU for visiting and reading!
Casey: Bingo!
Brogan: But of course!
Zulu: Well done! (clap clap clap!)
Greg Bulmash: LOL – Methinks you’re right! (but I love Zii)
Duckamuck: Great guess! But not quite – try http://www.gocomics.com/yenny – one of my favorites!)
SpandexDoom: LMFAO!!
paciii: You got it! (the blue hair will give her away)
Thanks gang – Don Kuehn is working up the colors right as we speak – keep ‘em coming! Story progresses forward again as of Thursday!
I can only place three of the tributes: Numbers 3 through 5.
Agatha Clay/Heterodyne and Sister Claire has been correctly named earlier. But I believe that number five is Colonel Jevee Ceeta from Howard Tayler’s “Schlock Mercenary”.
Give Dave a consolation price, he got the webcomic right at least (I think).
Aure Entuluva!
C
I actually enjoyed your little indulgence. Indulge more!
Love the colors – they all look great!
That last one looks like the girl from that old country strip that use to run YEARS ago, but I don’t even think Dave is old enough to have seen that one. >.<
#2 is Zii from MA3, #4 is Sister Claire, #5 might be Marge or Velma from Lesbian Pirates, #7 is Devil Jennie from the Devil’s Panties.
Wow, that pop factor hits you right in the face. Excellent. Renderings, Inks, color, writing.
“Says a woman who wears tea cups for a bra…AND A LOINCLOTH for smeg’s sake!” Tried posting this before…only ones I got were the chicks from GIRL GENIUS and DEVIL’S PANTIES.
All I got were Agatha and Jennie…and you missed “tea cups and a LOINCLOTH” for drafty.
These certainly were fun!
I know a bunch have already been confirmed, but I’m just going to run through so I make sure I get ‘em all.
Codex
Zii
Agatha
Sister Claire
Jevee Ceeta
Lian
Devil Jennie
Yenny
I admit that I had forgotten Yenny but the rest I recognized.
@Tom – Thanks! I had fun coloring them.
Been fun seeing the tributes all the characters I know, and learning the new ones! Also, how’s that link from Howard Tayler’s Schlock Mercenary treating your server ;^)
Hi, Yamino of SisterClaire.com here!
This is awesome, thanks so much for the cameo! It’s so fun doing homages. XD
Calenestel: Ha! Thanks very much!

Craig: Thanks! I shall revisit said indulgence in the future in other ways too!
Tom: Yes, thanks to the color-stylings of Don Kuehn!
Tim A: I’ll remember it from my cartooning historian bent – but old country strip… hm… anyone?
Spike: Close! Well done.
WHassinger: Excellent!
Don: Your colors were excellent, bud! Thanks a heap as ALWAYS!
Trones: Yes, been just as fun for me to get to DRAw them! And Howard’s link is treating me well! LOL
Yamino: Yamino! Thanks for dropping by! It was a pleasure. Dark Princess Gina (in the Dark Queen’s body) looks good as Sister Claire!
Tim A: AH-HA!! I remember! “Lil’ Abner” by Al Capp! I love that old strip!! Always loved the drawing. The strip ran from the 1930′s through the 70′s I believe.
My first comment was lost in the aether so if it isn’t too late, I’d also like to give Kudos to Don K. I especially liked the texture he added to Agatha’s jacket/skirt.
And to David, who whipped these last two strips out based on our reaction to the first. Unless I’m wrong, these last two strips were not originally part of his story and he was able to 1) Do justice to the women of comic-land and 2) provide decent punchlines, both on short notice. I’m lovin’ it!
Yenny? Here I thought it was Juno the Huntress from Realm of Atland. She predates Yenny by something like six months too. . .
Learn something new most every night. Great strip regardless!
Yaaaayayyyaayayayaaaaaaa!!!!! For The Guild reference!!!!
Windu makes a good point there…
