A quick Princess Gina sketch from my Hardbound sketchbook … I swear ever since I got this thing I have been drawing like wildfire. There’s something about the right sketchbook that just INSPIRES you to want to draw in it!!

LOB sketches by Lou Manglass for his guest comic above
by David Reddick on November 22nd, 2008Lou so kindly sent me some sketches he did of the characters in his sketchbook (anyone who’s been reading this blog long enough knows I have an obsessive affinity for sketchbooks, the comics-making process and sketches in general, so I LOVE to see this stuff) to warm up and get to know the characters on a “drawing them” level, for his guest strip (see above – published 11/20/08!) which I’d like to share with you here, as well as his note he sent along with them (hope Lou doesn’t mind, but I find such honesty and insight about one’s work to be refreshing and excellent for fellow cartoonists, including myself, to gleen from… it lets us know we’re all in this together, and always learning, every one of us!) And btw, Lou, you did a great job! Love these sketches. Enjoy, and comments welcome! Hm … maybe we need to start a sketch thread in the forums section…
Lou’s note:
“I attached the compositions of all four characters I used (Princess Gina, Bill, Frank and Sir Morton). I had a lot of fun drawing in your style, and learned a lot. I really like the way you did Bill’s jaw, it’s so simple yet so evocative. I went my own way with Sir Morton’s torso, because I needed places for coffee to pour out and we hadn’t seen it yet.
Â
I also included a really rough sketch of a waitress who I thought could bring the coffee to the table. I decided the strip was too cluttered already, and threw her out, but man it was a lot of fun to draw.
Thanks for being so supportive of fan art! It’s really great to have someone so encouraging and appreciative. I’m going to post all of these in my gallery as well.”

Hello, fellow turkeys! In the spirit of Thanksgiving, here’s a “The Trek Life” Thanksgiving wallpaper I did for my “The Trek Life” webcomic a few years ago for CBS/STARTREK.COM. Copy, paste, enjoy! (and gobble gobble)
Monday comics and Thursday guest strip opportunities!
by David Reddick on November 18th, 2008Greetings, Legend of Billers!
You’ve no doubt noticed some very cool guest strips on Thursdays recently… well, I’ve decided to produce Legend of Bill on Mondays for right now, as my schedule is so hectic at the moment, (I have some VERY cool official Star Trek work on the plate, and lots of it, which I will soon reveal here) and, well, the need for income is a reality, I’m afraid. However, this does not come without it’s opportunities!
I’ve decided to have some fun with this idea. I still intend to post LOB every Monday AND Thursday, and this is where YOU come in! I am opening up Thursdays as “Guest Strip Thursday,” like my Fan Art Friday, (which I have some new ones to post!) whereas, if I receive guest strips for Legend of Bill, I will continuously post them every Thursday for as long as I recieve them. In addition, I will happily, as always, post a link to your site and talk you up!
I only ask that you add the copyright line and LegendofBill.com website as it appears (whatever font you want) on my own strips, and you add “Guest Strip by (your name),” centered underneath the comic to boot. How does that sound? This way, I can scale back for right now on my own production level, yet LOB continues twice a week as planned. You can also do whatever you want in them … wanna do a comic taking place in the current timeline? Go for it! Wanna do a comic with the gang at the Inn? Do it! Wanna see more Sir Morton? Let’s see it! Wanna add your own characters from YOUR comic in it? Yeah! Not a cartoonist, but wanna try your hand at a strip with the LOB characters? I’m game!
Do not fret, however! I will still be putting up regualr (almost daily) blog posts as always, and even some new wallpapers (have you seen the nw one we snuck into the Downloads section?)… othing changes except my own Thursday output. Heck, I’m still working on an LOB map, a comic book option for LOB, and some other stuff to boot!
LOB’s traffic continues to grow, and pageviews hit an all-time high yesterday, so truthfully, I’d love to have your help to continue to grow LOB, and as finances begin to form for it, and other opportunities, who knows … I’ve always planned to take LOB to more times per week…
Also, I’ll be posting a “Tip the Cartoonist” donation button for Paypal soon. While I’ve refrained from doing it, it is a way to help monetize the comic. If I can monetize the comic, and grow it, it will mean my ability to do a lot more than I am, which I am working towards.
So, therefore, who wants to join the Legend of Bill Army? Send me those LOB comics, and let’s make some Thursday magic together!! and heck – if you have sketches you did in the process of your comic, send those too, and I’ll post them in the blog as I post my own!
And be sure to stop over at my other daily webcomic “Reddickulous,” which continues on its 5-day-per-week schedule, M-F! Huzzah!
Your pal,
-David
P.S. Any storylines will continue Monday to Monday – such as the coming of the Dark Queen! But I invite you to add to the storylinewith one-offs between Mondays … if you dare!
Reddick’s Rhetoric grand prize winner announced!
by David Reddick on November 18th, 2008The grand prize winner for my lil’ Reddick’s Rhetoric Book contest is Andria Shelton! Thank you all for entering the contest, I got a LOT of response and sign-ups, and a BIG thank you to my good pal Thomas the Innkeeper who’s site Webcomics, Inc helped promote the contest and made it all possible! Incidentally, Thomas the Innkeeper, as yo umay know, is the Legend of Bill Innkeeper (webmaster). Let’s give it up for a job well done!! And while you’re at it, be sure to check out Thomas’ other site “WCI High” where he brings together various cartoonists to do high school versions of their characters who all attend the same school, WCI High. A novel concept and a lot of fun to boot. Now, get over to Webcomics Inc and check it out and sign up!
