Many don’t know this, but I’m also a fine artist… I’m proud to say I’ve exhibited around the world in galleries, such as England, France, Japan, and around the US. One of my original paintings and 3 original political cartoons are part of the permanent exhibit of the Muskegon Museum of Art. It’s another side of my art that I am very proud of, and it’s also very personal as well, in a very different way. Anyhoo, in addition to so much cartoon sketching, there’s another side to my sketchbooks…
Something I used to do when I worked as a staff editorial cartoonist and newsroom artist at the daily newspaper for 6 years, was, upon orders of my publisher (and friend), to go around the varied towns and cities, sketching scenes and things that caught my eye, that said something about these areas, which then were published in the newspaper in a special section called “A Day in the Life.” I always LOVED those outings.
So, I’ll post a few of these very different sketches in the next few days … perhaps even a painting or two!
